Austin: Quilts, Friends, Food and Fun

26 Feb

I spent last Thursday-Sunday in Austin for Quiltcon and some visiting with dear friends.  After a very long day of travel cancellations and delays on Thursday, I made it to Austin in the evening.  I was up bright and early the next morning to get myself to Quiltcon.  It was delightful. Here are just a few pictures:

Friday evening I had dinner with my friend Ann and my new friend Tracy. BBQ in Austin is a thing of beauty.  Saturday morning I volunteered to help at Quiltcon and had a lovely time chatting with this fellow volunteer between taking tickets and stamping hands.

Then I was off to meet up with some long time, long distance friends. We ate, took some pictures, window shopped and then ate some more.

Back to the hotel for some much needed sleep, and then up again to go eat some more.

I also got to give two of my friends some little prezzies I had made. I still owe some, but they are the kind of friends that don’t mind.

Next adventure: The Monte Vista Crane Festival with the family in two weeks time.  Between now and then, I hope to get a couple of quilt tops quilted and bound and some smaller projects finished.

Library Window-My first original design

31 Jan

This is the building where I work. I have been thinking that those big center windows would make a good quilt design for a while now. Image

I started playing with Illustrator, and came up with this:

The inside of the library is decorated in blues, grays and that lovely shade of green, so I added a bit of the green in there too. What do you think?Image

Dusting off the blog

24 Jan

Not that it ever got much attention, but still.

I am determined to sew/quilt more this year, and document it here. I may also throw in some random cooking, crafting and aren’t my kids and animals cute posts.

But first, a few pictures of some of the projects I did get done last year:

Made the boy a new pillow out of his favorite outgrown sweater.

Custom art, with one of my favorite poems, for the bathroom.

New headboard, in collaboration with the man.

Baby quilt with minky.

Quilt for my best friend’s birthday.

That last one took a very, very long time.

Let’s Get Ugly, Part II

11 Nov

The Ugly Day finally arrived!

We decorated the house.

Put out the food-

And prepared the crafts-

The girls also watched a movie and had a sleepover, which meant they were awake until 4am.

Thanks to Bunnycakes for the inspiration!
